Fire Blotter: Car Lands Vertically After Collision on Duarte Road

The fire department says the driver was able to get out of the vehicle himself but he was still taken to the hospital.

Sunday, June 16
At 5:07 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a single vehicle flipped vertically, nose down with the rear end suspended in the air. The 23-year-old driver self-extricated and was suffering from left shoulder pain. Paramedics immobilized the shoulder, placed the patient in full spinal immobilization and transported him to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for evaluation.

Monday, June 17
At 7:51 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, June 18
At 3:48 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a hazard investigation in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive. A resident, who was out of town, contacted Arcadia Fire Department Administration for assistance in determining if she had left her stove on. The resident had exhausted all other avenues to assess the potentially hazardous situation and decided to contact the Fire Department. Fire crews arrived and made entry into the apartment through an open window. They determined that the resident had, indeed, vacated the apartment with food cooking on the stove. The burner was turned off and the pot was allowed to cool. The apartment was secured and the resident was advised that the hazard had been abated.

Wednesday, June 19
At 5:08 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a reported refuse fire in the 900 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, Arcadia fire personnel found a dumpster to the rear of the structure well involved in fire. Fire personnel extinguished the fire quickly with no damage to the structure. The dumpster was overhauled and, upon further investigation, it was determined that the fire was started from hot charcoal discarded in the dumpster.

Thursday, June 20
At 9:55 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist on the westbound 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 44 year old female suffering from chest pain and dizziness sitting in her car parked on the side of the freeway. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures; including intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram, administering cardiac medications and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Friday, June 21
At 11:06 a.m., Engine 107, Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision with persons trapped on the westbound 210 Freeway east of Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a traffic collision with three vehicles involved. One vehicle was found beneath a semi-truck. Two patients were found. One patient with minor to moderate injuries required extrication. The patients received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, wound care, intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and 12 lead cardiac monitoring. The patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, June 22
At 7:26 a.m. Engine 105, Truck 105, and Rescue Ambulance 105 assisted units from the Monrovia Fire Department on a structure fire in the 1800 block of South Mayflower Avenue in the City of Monrovia. Upon arrival, Arcadia fire personnel assisted on scene crews with fire extinguishment, salvage and overhaul, and investigation.
