Fire Blotter: Child Struck by Horse

Firefighters also assisted San Marino crews in battling a major structure fire in that city this week.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Jan. 22-28. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Jan. 23

At 1:46 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with injuries at the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and West Naomi Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one person suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including: full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

Jan. 26

At 7:38 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a woman who was experiencing an altered mental status. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring, and drug therapy. She was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Jan. 27

At 2:21 a.m., Engine 106 was dispatched to a . Engine 106 personnel arrived on scene and were assigned to a division at the rear of the structure. Fire crews worked with other automatic aid agencies in fire extinguishment, overhaul and salvage. Fire personnel remained on scene for approximately two hours.

Jan. 28

At 11:12 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews evaluated and treated a child who was struck by a horse. Paramedics treated and transported the child to the pediatric trauma center at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center due to the nature and mechanism of injury.
