Fire Blotter: Dog Drowns in Pool

Also, a cyclist hit by a car fractured his wrist.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 17-23. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Car vs. Cyclist

At 2:44 p.m. on March 17, Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic accident involving an automobile and a bicycle in the intersection of El Monte Avenue and Le Roy Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a cyclist who had been struck by a vehicle, sustaining multiple abrasions and a possible fractured wrist. Paramedics assessed the patient and placed him in full cerebral spinal precautions prior to transporting him to the closest trauma center.

Medical Assist: Abdominal Pain, Bloody Stools

At 3:43 p.m. on March 18, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 43-year-old woman suffering from abdominal pain with bloody stools. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene: 12 lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Illegal Campfire

At 10:10 p.m. on March 19, Engine 107 responded to a fire in the area of Highland Oaks Drive and Foothill Blvd. Fire personnel arrived on scene to find an illegal campfire in the flood control area. The small fire was extinguished and the people who started the fire were advised of the laws and safety concerns related to campfires.

Medical Assist: Vomiting and Abdominal Pain

At 8:44 a.m. on March 20, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1500 block of South Cambury Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 59-year-old woman suffering from vomiting and abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene: 12 lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, administration of pain medication and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Man Falls, Hits Head

At 1:05 p.m. on March 21, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical emergency in the 200 block of East Santa Clara Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a man who had fallen and hit his head. Paramedics assessed the patient and transported him to the nearest trauma center.

Dog Drowns in Pool

At 5:58 p.m. on March 22, Engine 107 responded to an animal problem in the 1700 block of North Alta Oaks Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 2-year-old bullmastiff terrier at the bottom of a residential pool. The dog owner stated she had left for an hour and returned home to find the lifeless dog at the bottom of the pool. It appeared that the dog had become entangled in a bubble wrap style pool cover and drowned. Fire crews retrieved the dog from the pool and requested animal control to respond.

Injury Collision

At 7:55 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of East Live Oak Avenue and South Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one patient with mild injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene: full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy and 12 lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
