Fire Blotter: Downed Power Lines and a Vegetation Fire

Firefighters dealt with several downed power lines in Arcadia and a small vegetation fire, among several other incidents.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Sept. 4-10. The following is a breakdown of incidents for this period:

Sept. 4

At 2:02 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105 and units from Los Angeles County Fire discovered a natural gas leak coming coming from a meter damaged following a vehicle accident. Fire personnel evacuated the area and  controlled the leak. The Southern California Gas Company repaired the damaged meter.

Sept. 6

At 3:40 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of wires down and arcing in the 2000 block of Carolwood Drive. Witnesses told fire crews a residence in the neighborhood had smoke coming from it. Engine 105 found no smoke inside said residence. The fire crew did find active power lines arcing in the side yard of the residence as well as in neighboring properties. Southern California Edison fixed the downed lines.

Sept. 8

At 8:19 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a vegetation fire in the 100 block of Las Tunas Drive. Fire Crews discovered a power line down in a vacant lot, which caused the small fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire and called Southern California Edison to fix the downed line.

Sept. 10

At 2:13 p.m., Engine 106 and Battalion 105, along with units from Alhambra, Monrovia, Monterey Park and San Gabriel, formed a strike team to help fight the Keene Brush fire in Kern County.
