Fire Blotter: Electrical Panel at Arcadia Business Bursts into Flames

Firefighters extinguished a blaze inside a commercial structure on Live Oak Avenue.

Sunday, June 23
At 12:45 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Colorado Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from chest pain with shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, June 24
At 11:57 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of West Huntington Drive and South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one patient suffering from mild to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and wound care. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, June 25
At 6:44 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real. Fire crews arrived to find a 68 year old female suffering from chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, administration of cardiac medication, 12 lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Wednesday, June 26
At 9:49 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, Battalion 105, Monrovia Engine 101, and Pasadena Truck 32, responded to an appliance fire in the 400 block of West Woodruff Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a dryer on fire inside a residence. Engine 105 personnel utilized a fire extinguisher to quench the fire. Truck 105 personnel performed positive pressure ventilation to remove smoke from the structure. Engine 106 personnel checked for fire extension in the walls and ceiling of the laundry room.

One resident, suffering from smoke inhalation, was treated on scene by Rescue Ambulance 106 Paramedics, who performed advanced life support measures, including cardiac monitoring and oxygen saturation monitoring. The patient declined further treatment.

Thursday, June 27
At 2:13 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find one male employee suffering from heat exhaustion due to working outside in the extreme heat. Paramedics assessed the patient and advised him to be seen at a local hospital. The patient declined treatment and transport.

Friday, June 28
At 9:59 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient suffering from head pain with a small hematoma sustained during a fall. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, spinal immobilization, intravenous access, and wound care. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, June 29
At 9:40 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical emergency in the 600 block of West Foothill Blvd. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a male patient suffering from nausea following sun exposure during the afternoon. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures; including cardiac monitoring and fluid therapy. Paramedics transported the patient to an area hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Sunday, June 30
At 4:53 p.m., Engine 107 responded to a reported refuse fire in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, Arcadia fire personnel found a dumpster fire to the rear of a structure. Fire personnel extinguished the fire quickly with no damage to the structure. Upon further investigation it was determined the fire started from hot charcoal being placed inside the dumpster.

Monday, July 1
At 6:50 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with injuries in the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find two injured persons. Engine 107 requested an additional paramedic unit, Monrovia Squad 101, along with a private ambulance. Paramedics assessed both patients, placed them in full cerebral spinal precautions and transported them to local hospitals for further treatment and evaluation.

At 11:50 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find one male patient who was suffering from a leg injury due to being kicked by a horse. Paramedics assessed the patient; checking for pulse, movement, and sensation in the injured extremity. The leg was splinted and the patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Tuesday, July 2
At 2:28 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from an altered mental status. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

At 5:09 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an assault victim in the 200 block of Colorado Place. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from facial pain with a large hematoma to her left cheek from an assault. While the patient was being treated, the suspect charged the patient and fire personnel assisted Arcadia Police personnel with take down and detention of the suspect. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including wound care, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, July 3
At 2:30 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 00 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find one male patient suffering from chest pain and shortness of breath. Paramedics performed a 12 lead EKG and determined that the patient was experiencing an ST Segment Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). The patient was transported to the closest STEMI center for further treatment and evaluation.

Thursday, July 4
At 10:09 p.m., Sierra Madre Fire Department requested mutual aid assistance in the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Grandview Avenue in the City of Sierra Madre for a traffic collision with a person trapped. Truck 105, Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the scene. Fire crews provided basic and advanced life support care for three patients, as well as the extrication of one patient from the vehicle.

Friday, July 5
At 2:34 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a fire alarm in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene and found an activated alarm with light smoke inside a commercial structure. The balance of a first alarm assignment was dispatched, which included; Engine 105, Engine 107, Pasadena Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105. Engine 106 investigated and found the source of the smoke to be a malfunctioning appliance. Truck 105 performed natural ventilation. The remainder of the first alarm staged during the investigation and was later released.

At 2:19 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, and units from the Los Angeles County, and Monrovia Fire Departments responded to a commercial structure fire in the 100 block of West Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel encountered light smoke coming from an electrical panel to the front of the structure. Upon further investigation fire crews confirmed the fire was contained to the electrical panel and all units within the structure were cleared. Fire crews secured the structure and remained on scene until Edison arrived and disconnected the electrical supply to the building. E105 released the building to the building owner.

Sunday, July 7
At 11:19 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision in the 2000 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one patient suffering from mild to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and wound care. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, July 8
At 5:17 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 16 year old female suffering from nausea and vomiting. Further investigation revealed that the minor had been drinking alcohol excessively during the day. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, anti-nausea medication, electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Tuesday, July 9
At 11:49 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of East Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from an altered mental status with post seizure activity. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday July 10, 2013
At 3:41 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical emergency in the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a male patient suffering from chest pain. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures; including cardiac monitoring, intravenous fluids, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Thursday July 11, 2013
At 10:07 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the intersection of Centennial Way and Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a male patient who had experienced a seizure. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures; including cardiac monitoring, intravenous fluids, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Friday July 12, 2013
At 2:36 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 1100 block of West Colorado Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an unconscious male patient. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures; including cardiac monitoring, intravenous fluids, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Saturday, July 13
At 12:41 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1100 block of East Camino Real. Fire crews arrived to find a 71 year old male suffering from an altered level of consciousness. Further assessment revealed the patient had a medical history of diabetes and low blood sugar. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram, oxygen therapy and medication. Following these interventions, the patient regained full consciousness and refused any additional treatment or transportation the hospital.
