Fire Blotter: Faulty Water Heater Causes Fire

The Arcadia Fire Department also dealt with an injury traffic collision and several medical assists.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 8-14. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Dislocated Shoulder
At 2:53 p.m. on July 8, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews evaluated a man suffering from a possible dislocated shoulder. Paramedics provided intravenous access and drug therapy for pain management. They immobilized the shoulder before transporting the patient to for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Sick Elderly Woman
At 4:45 p.m. on July 9, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to medical assist in the 00 block of West Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews evaluated an elderly woman suffering from weakness, dizziness and nausea. Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene, including intravenous access, oxygen therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Fall Victim
At 9:12 a.m. on July 10, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of West Duarte Road and South Baldwin Avenue on a medical assist. Fire crews evaluated a woman suffering from leg and arm pain due to a fall. Paramedics treated her for skin lacerations and immobilized her extremities. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Chest Pains
At 4:36 p.m. on July 11, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to medical assist in the 200 block of East Ellen Way. Fire crews evaluated an elderly male who was suffering from chest pain and shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene, including intravenous access, oxygen therapy, drug therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

House Fire
At 4:31 p.m. on July 12, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, along with units from the Los Angeles County and Monrovia fire departments, responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of Panorama Drive. Fire personnel found the residents of the single-family dwelling standing outside. Light smoke drifted from the structure. The resident stated smoke in the laundry room was preceded by a loud noise in the same vicinity. Fire personnel identified the water heater to be the cause of the smoke. Fire personnel shut the water and gas off to the water heater.

Traffic Collision With Injuries
At 5:22 p.m. on July 13, Engine 107 and a unit from the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a traffic collision with reported injuries at the intersection of East Newman Avenue and North Second Avenue. Fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic collision with two patients suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patients received advanced life support at the scene, including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy and cardiac monitoring. The patients were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Chest Pains
At 12:54 p.m. on July 14, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a man suffering from chest pain and shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene, including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
