Fire Blotter: House Fire

Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby Dana Middle School.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Jan. 29-Feb.4. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

At 4:38 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105, with units from Pasadena Fire, responded to a report of smoke from a structure in the 500 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews reported a two-story condominium complex with smoke coming from the end unit. Fire personnel found the source of the smoke to be burnt food left unattended in a kitchen. Truck 105 crew assisted Engine 106 crew with smoke removal using a positive pressure ventilation fan. All additional units were released.

At 12:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of West Magna Vista Avenue. Fire crews evaluated an elderly woman who was suffering from head pain and wrist pain after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene, including: cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, drug therapy, and splinting of extremities. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 1:

At 8:32 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire personnel evaluated a man who was experiencing difficulty breathing. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, drug therapy, cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. He was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 2:

At 6:25 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, with Monrovia Fire Department units, responded to a structure fire in the 1300 block of South First Avenue. Heavy smoke and flames were seen by responding units as far away as Baldwin Avenue and Duarte Road. . It was quickly determined that the structure was vacant. Defensive operations were established with an emphasis placed on protecting adjacent structures, including the l gymnasium. The fire was extinguished and the structure completely overhauled. No injuries were reported.

Feb. 3:

At 5:16 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated woman suffering from an altered mental status, post seizure activity. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
