Fire Blotter: House Fire Kills Pets

The Humane Society later arrived on scene.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Dec. 11-17. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Dec. 11

    •    At 9:24 a.m., Truck 105 responded with Los Angeles County Fire Department units to a structure fire in the 6000 block of Agnes Street in Temple City. Arcadia fire personnel arrived on scene and assisted Los Angeles County fire crews by providing forcible entry into the structure charged with smoke.  Arcadia fire personnel provided smoke removal utilizing the positive pressure blower. Fire extension was checked with a thermal imaging camera.

Dec. 13

    •    At 7:49 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, Engine 107 and units from the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of East Haven Avenue. Fire personnel encountered heavy smoke coming from multiple roof vents. Fire crews entered the structure and encountered extreme smoke and heat. Fire crews extinguished the kitchen fire. The owner of the structure was evaluated on scene by paramedics for anxiety. . This prompted a request for the Humane Society to respond to the location.

Dec. 14

    •    At 7:47 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the 900 block of West Duarte Road in the City of Monrovia on a report of a vehicle leaking fuel. Fire crews identified a vehicle leaking gasoline into the street and used a clay-like compound to stop the leak. Fire personnel remained on scene until a tow truck removed the vehicle.

Dec. 15

    •    At 7:03 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an auto versus bicycle in the 500 block of North First Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a man who was struck by a car while riding a bicycle. The patient complained of severe lower back pain. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene, including full cervical spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, and pain medication. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

Dec. 17

    •    At 1:41 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with injuries at the intersection of West Colorado Boulevard and Michillinda Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated one patient who sustained minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.
