Fire Blotter: Man Seriously Injured in Vehilcle Collision

The Arcadia Fire Department also dealt with a number of medical assists.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Feb. 26-March 3. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Feb. 26:

    •    At 1:19 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of North First Avenue.  Fire crews evaluated a female patient experiencing a super ventricular tachycardia, or extremely fast heart rate.  Paramedics performed advanced life support measures on scene, including cardiac monitoring and administering medication to treat the fast heart rate.  The patient was transported to for additional evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 27:

    •    At 11:54 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to medical assist inside a business office in the 100 block of North South Santa Anita Avenue.  Fire crews evaluated a female who had fallen and hit her head after experiencing a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac exam, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 28:

    •    At 9:59 a.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with injuries at the intersection of North Baldwin Avenue and the 210 Freeway. Fire personnel found one patient suffering from moderate injuries to the head and neck. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 29:

    •    At 7:09 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105 responded to the intersection of Duarte Road and Santa Anita Avenue to a traffic collision involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle. Fire crews evaluated a male patient who had been struck by a motor vehicle and thrown over forty feet from the point of impact. The patient was found to have a large laceration to the back of his head. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac exam and intravenous access. The patient met trauma center criteria and was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

March 1:

    •    At 11:30 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from chest pain and shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene; including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

March 2:

    •    At 12:38 a.m., Engine 107, Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision with persons trapped in the intersection of West Huntington Drive and West Santa Clara Avenue. Fire personnel arrived on scene to find a single vehicle collision into a block wall.  Witnesses stated the driver lost control while driving at a high rate of speed, crashing through the wall. One patient with major injuries was found inside the vehicle, requiring extrication. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, splinting, wound care, intravenous access, oxygen therapy, and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

    •    At 11:11 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Armada Road.  Fire Crews evaluated a young female patient with a history of diabetes suffering from an altered mental status.  Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including a blood glucose reading, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose.  The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

March 3:

    •    At 10:55 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, drug therapy, cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
