Fire Blotter: Man Sustains Head Injury During Assault

Also, a man was knocked unconscious after falling off his horse at Santa Anita Park.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 10-16, 2013. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Assault Leads to Head Injury

At 7:29 p.m. on March 10, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an assault victim at Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene and encountered a man with a head injury suffered during an altercation. Paramedics placed the patient in full cerebral spinal precautions and transported the patient to a local trauma center for further treatment and evaluation.

Man Falls off Horse at Track

At 8:05 a.m. on March 11, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at Santa Anita Park. Fire crews arrived to find a 50-year-old man who had fallen from a horse, landing on his head. The patient was unconscious and exhibiting signs and symptoms of a spinal injury.Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including full spinal immobilization, 12 lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient met trauma center criteria and was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

Child Rides Bike Into Fire Hydrant

At 2:44 p.m. on March 15, Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded on a bicycle accident in the intersection of Second Avenue and La Porte Street. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a child that rode his bicycle into a fire hydrant. Paramedics assessed the patient, placed him in full cerebral spinal precautions and transported him to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
