Fire Blotter: Near Drowning and Structure Fire Assist

Arcadia firefighters provided advance life support measure for a toddler who nearly drowned this week. They also assisted Monrovia firefighters in fighting a massive commercial blaze.

Sept. 11

At 12:27 p.m., Engine 706 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a call for medical assistance in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews evaluated a teenage boy who possibly fractured his left ankle during an athletic event. Paramedics immobilized the ankle with an air splint and transported the boy to for further evaluation and treatment.

Sept. 12

At 2:14 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a call for medical assistance in the 800 block of Kingsley Drive. Fire personnel examined an 18-month-old toddler who had nearly drowned. Bystanders said the boy had been under water briefly before someone rescued him. He received advanced life support measures at the scene, including oxygen therapy and cardiac monitoring. Paramedics transported the child to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Sept. 14

At 5:39 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105, with units from the Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena, and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, assisted Monrovia Fire Department on a third alarm in the 1200 block of South Shamrock Avenue in Monrovia.

Sept. 15

At 2:00 p.m., Engine 107 and Truck 105 assisted Monrovia Fire units with fighting a fire in the 1000 block of Royal Oaks Drive in Monrovia. Fire crews battled an attic fire that had spread to two condominium units.

Sept. 16

At 8:12 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a call regarding a 78-year-old man who suffering from arm pain after being struck by a car traveling at a slow rate of speed. The man declined ambulance transportation to the hospital.
