FIRE BLOTTER: Overheated Generator

The recent windstorm and resulting power outage caused two minor fires

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Dec. 4-10. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Dec. 5:

At 3:42 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105, with units from Pasadena Fire, responded to an electrical fire in the 800 block of San Vicente Drive. Fire personnel determined that a portable generator overheated and produce a small amount of smoke.

Dec. 6:
 
At 4:30 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105, with Pasadena Fire units, responded to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of Gloria Road. Fire personnel found an extinguished fire in the bathroom of the residence. Firefighters determined an electrical wall heater ignited clothing nearby. Southern California Edison had just restored power to the home.

Dec. 7:

At 11:41 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105 responded to a reported broken gas main in the 100 block of California Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a small amount of natural gas leaking from a meter. The gas meter to the structure had been damaged while workers were removing a fallen tree. Fire personnel secured the area and waited for the arrival of the Southern California Gas Company. All other units were released.

Dec. 8:
 
At 11:24 p.m., Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105, along with Monrovia and Los Angeles County Fire units, responded to a reported house fire in the 200 block of East Chestnut Avenue. Monrovia personnel reported smoke and fire showing from the front of the structure. None of the home's occupants suffered any injuries, although a dog received treatment for smoke inhalation.

At 3:50 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision with injuries at the intersection of West Duarte Road and Holly Avenue. Fire personnel found one patient complaining of minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy and cardiac monitoring. Ambulance personnel transported the patient to for further evaluation and
treatment.

Dec. 10:
 
At 1:11 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105, along with Pasadena and Los Angeles County Fire units, responded to a report of smoke coming from a structure in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Investigation of the promenade parking area determined the smoke was coming from a valet golf cart. No damage to any structure or injury was reported. The golf cart was removed from service
