Fire Blotter: Pedestrian Hit; Victim Trapped in Car

Car accidents and medical assists made up the bulk of the calls.

  
The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of May 27, 2012 through June 2, 2012. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period.

Sunday, May 27

At 3:10 p.m., Engine 105, with units from Monrovia Fire, responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of West Campus Drive. Fire crews treated a female patient experiencing a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including intravenous access, oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, and drug therapy to control
the seizure. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, May 28

At 3:41 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of Colorado Place. Fire personnel found a male patient unconscious and unresponsive after being pulled from a pool. Fire personnel evaluated the patient further and found the patient to be pulseless and apneic. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including cardio pulmonary resuscitation, oxygen therapy, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment. Upon arrival at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, the patient had return of spontaneous pulses and respirations.

At 5:17 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of South Mayflower Avenue. Fire crews treated an elderly female who sustained a fractured ankle. The patient had fallen several hours earlier. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including splinting of the open fracture, intravenous  access, oxygen therapy, and medications for pain management. Patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, May 30

At 12:19 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an auto versus pedestrian collision on the off-ramp of the West Bound 210 Freeway at the Foothill Boulevard. Fire personnel evaluated a male patient complaining of minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including oxygen therapy,  intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, May 31

At 5:46 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of South Third Ave on a medical assist. Fire crews evaluated an elderly patient who was unresponsive and apneic. Paramedics performed advance life support measures on scene including cardio pulmonary resuscitation, cardiac defibrillation, advanced airway, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, June 1

At 5:02 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 with units from San Marino Fire  Department responded to a traffic collision with injuries on North Baldwin Avenue at the 210 freeway. Fire personnel investigated a two-vehicle traffic collision with vehicle over-turned. Further investigation found one patient trapped requiring extrication and a total of four patients complaining of minor to moderate injuries. All patients received advanced life support at the scene including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, intravenous access, and cardiac monitoring. The patients were transported to Huntington Memorial Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, June 2

At 3:04 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Sycamore Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a female patient complaining of dizziness and nausea from heat exposure. Paramedics assessed the patient’s vitals and provided intravenous fluids. Patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation. One hour later fire crews responded to the same location to treat another patient with a similar chief complaint.
