Fire Blotter: Pet Perishes in Live Oak Fire

The Arcadia Fire Department also aided Pasadena firefighters in suppressing a structure fire in that city and responded to several medical assists.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 29-May 5. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

At 10:02 a.m., Engine 106, with units from Monrovia Fire, responded to a vehicle fire on the eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews encountered a fully involved mid-size pick-up truck. Suppression personnel extinguished and overhauled the vehicle utilizing additional water supply from Monrovia. The vehicle was released to the California Highway Patrol.

Monday, April 30

At 8:24 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to medical assist in the 00 block of West Woodland Lane. Fire crews evaluated an elderly male who was suffering from leg pain from a slip and fall. The patient had an obvious deformity to the right femur, indicating a femur fracture. Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene; including the application of a traction splint, intravenous access, drug therapy for pain management, oxygen therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Tuesday, May 1

At 12:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from an altered mental status, post seizure activity. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Wednesday, May 2

At 8:10 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of West Fairview Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a female patient showing signs of an altered mental status. Paramedics provided advanced life support on scene; including airway management, intravenous access, oxygen therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Thursday, May 3

At 6:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from a local neurological weakness. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

 

Friday, May 4

At 2:24 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107 and Truck 105 responded to an automatic aid structure fire in the 3000 block of Del Vine Avenue in Pasadena. Fire crews were assigned as a Rapid Intervention Crew, Search and Rescue, Ventilation and Overhaul. The fire was contained to the structure of origin.

At 10 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107 Truck 105, Rescue Ambulances 105 and 106, and Battalion 105, with units from Monrovia and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of West Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews encountered significant fire and smoke showing from the front of the structure. Suppression personnel were assigned to Interior Division for fire extinguishment, structure ventilation and salvage.

A primary search and rescue was conducted by fire crews revealing no civilian entrapment or injury. One domestic pet perished at the scene. The fire was contained to a portion of the structure resulting in $50,000 in damage to contents and $100,000 damage to the structure. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental.

 

Saturday, May 5

At 4:35 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1900 block of Wilson Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from chest pain with palpitations. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
