Fire Blotter: Transient Preparing Meal Sparks Smoke Alert

Firefighters also dealt with a fire in an upstairs bedroom.

Transient Prepares Meal, Sparks Smoke Alert

At 8:07 a.m. on Aug. 26, Engine 105 responded to smoke in the area of the 100 block of West Colorado Boulevard. Fire crews investigated the area and found smoke coming from the vegetation near the railroad crossing. The source of the smoke was determined to be a transient preparing a meal. The fire was extinguished and the transient was counseled.

Medical Assist: Altered Mental Status

At 1 p.m. on Aug. 27, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of West Campus Drive. Fire crews evaluated an elderly woman experiencing an altered mental status. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including: intravenous access, oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring and a blood glucose test. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Shortness of Breath

At 2:23 p.m. on Aug. 28, Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1800 block of Alta Oaks Drive. Fire personnel evaluated a man suffering from chest pain with shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Chest Pain

At 10:02 a.m. on Aug. 29, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of Las Tunas Drive. Fire crews evaluated a man suffering from chest pain. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures on scene, including: 12-lead cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, intravenous access and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

At 11 a.m. on Aug. 30, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a woman suffering from an altered mental status. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including: oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Fractured Hip

At 2:43 p.m. on Aug. 31, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews evaluated a male patient suffering from a possible fractured hip after a trip and fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including: intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and drug therapy for pain management. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Bedroom Fire

At 2:22 p.m. on Sept. 1, Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105, along with units from Monrovia Fire, were dispatched to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Linda Avenue. On arrival, fire crews reported light smoke coming from a two story single-family residence. The home's occupant had extinguished a fire in an upstairs bedroom prior to fire department arrival. Engine 105 used a thermal imaging camera to see if the fire had spread. Truck 105 provided positive pressure ventilation to remove the smoke from the structure and overhaul.
