Fire Blotter: Vehicle Fire Victim Burned

The Arcadia Fire Department also helped a person trapped in an elevator.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 29-Aug. 4. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Sewage Drains Into Restaurant Parking Lot

At 6:42 p.m. on Juy 29, Truck 105 responded to a hazard in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews found an overflow trap of sewer and grease from a restaurant that had backed up in their drainage, allowing grease and sewage to run into the parking lot. The restaurant was closed and Los Angeles County Health Department contacted. The restaurant owner contacted a commercial plumber to rectify the problem.

Person Trapped in Elevator

At 11:23 a.m. on July 30, Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to the report of a person trapped in the 100 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Fire personnel found one person trapped in a malfunctioning elevator on the first floor. Fire personnel made contact with the person to confirm there was no medical complaint. The power to the elevator was shut down and an elevator tool was used to open the door. The person was checked again for any adverse medical conditions and released. The elevator was secured and released to the building management.

Tuesday, July 31

At 10:30 a.m. on July 31, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1900 block of South Sixth Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated a woman patient who was suffering from head pain with a laceration to the forehead after a fall. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including oxygen therapy, vital signs, intravenous access, wound care and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

Vegetation Fire

At 3:54 p.m. on Aug. 1, Engine 105 responded to a reported vegetation fire in the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews investigated light smoke to the rear of the address. It was determined the smoke was coming from a small vegetation fire burning at a location accessed from Peck Road. Fire personnel made access and assisted Los Angeles County Fire Department, who were already on scene, in extinguishing and overhauling the fire utilizing hand lines and hand tools.

Medical Assist: Possible Fracture

At 6:09 p.m. on Aug. 2, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of South First Avenue. Fire crews arrived and evaluated a man complaining of ankle pain with a possible fracture from a sports injury. Paramedics assessed the patient, splinted the injured extremity and transported the patient to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Person Burned in Vehicle Fire

At 3:46 p.m. on Aug. 3, Engine 105 and RA105 responded to a vehicle fire with the report of a burn victim in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive in Monrovia. Fire personnel found a full size van well involved in fire. Fire crews extinguished and overhauled the fire with compressed air foam and water via hose lines. Paramedics evaluated a patient with minor burns to his or her fingers and hand from attempting to extinguish the fire on his or her own. After a full examination, the patient refused treatment or transport. Overhaul of the vehicle determined the fire started in the engine compartment due to mechanical failure.

Woman Locked Out of Apartment

At 6:34 p.m. on Aug. 4, Engine 106 responded to a public assist in the 900 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews assisted a woman who was locked out of her apartment. The doorknob to the apartment was disabled. Fire personnel assisted in repairing the doorknob so the woman could get back inside.
