Fire Blotter: House Fire, Car Crashes Into Building

One person is injured by flying glass when a car crashes into a structure.

The following information is from the Arcadia Fire Department:

Sunday, November 3

At 12:54 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of Linda Rae Way. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from severe abdominal pain with blood in his stool. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, November 4

At 10:21 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of North Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, November 5

At 5:54 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision involving a bicyclist at the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient suffering from moderate to major injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, wound care, and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, November 7

At 12:26 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a public assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Engine 105 arrived on scene to find an eight story medical office building that was without power. Fire personnel were informed there were non-ambulatory persons on the upper floor in need of assistance in returning to the ground floor. Additional units were requested; Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded. Fire crews utilized a stair chair device to assist five non-ambulatory persons to the ground floor. The building was deemed uninhabitable until power was restored.

At 4:26 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105 responded to a vehicle into a structure in the 00 block of South First Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find one vehicle on the sidewalk, having collided with a structure. Investigating Fire personnel found two patients associated with the collision. One patient was struck by flying glass when the vehicle struck the building and was treated and transported to a local hospital. The second patient, the driver of the vehicle was evaluated at the scene and refused any treatment or transportation to a hospital

Friday, November 8

At 2:52 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, San Marino Engine 91, Truck 105, Pasadena Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to an apartment house fire in the 700 block of Southview Road. Rescue Ambulance 106 arrived on scene first, performed a size up of the situation, and discovered a small kitchen fire inside an apartment. Fire personnel utilized a fire extinguisher to achieve a quick knockdown of the fire. Engine 106 utilized a thermal imaging camera to check for fire extension. Truck 105 used a positive pressure ventilation fan to forcefully remove smoke from the interior of the apartment. The fire loss was determined to be approximately $3000.00.
