Updated: Wall Heater Possibly to Blame for Arcadia Avenue Fire

The fire--the third in three days--was at an apartment complex, according to the Arcadia Police Department.

A wall heater may have caused a fire in the bathroom of an apartment on the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue, a spokesperson for the said. The fire has been extinguished, with no injuries reported.

"It's so easy for clothes and towels to come into contact with those heaters," Beth Stogner said, adding that firefighters zeroed in on the heater during their preliminary investigation of the fire. Firefighters will release the official cause of the fire once they complete their investigation.

At 10:55 a.m., the Fire Department got the call from an evacuating resident who said something was on fire in her bathroom, but didn't know what it was, said Chris Campbell of the Fire Department. The fire was confined to that resident's apartment, said Lt. Paul Foley of the Arcadia Police Department. The fire was put out at 11:13 a.m.

"We knocked on doors just in case," he said.

The fire, which the Fire Department said did an estimated $10,000 worth of damage, marks the third in three consecutive days in Arcadia. Before this, a led to the loss of two cars and a doll collection. caused $250,000 worth of damage, but the home's residents managed to escape the flames relatively unscathed.

The three incidents appear unrelated and caused by accidental circumstances, according to both fire and police officials. As of 12:30 p.m., the 1100 block of Arcadia Avenue remains closed. Commuters are urged to seek alternate routes.
