UPDATE: Authorities Identify 5-year-old Who Choked to Death

The Los Angeles County medical examiner will perform an autopsy on Athena To.

UPDATE, 2:30 p.m.: Authorities have identified the girl as Athena To. Reports state she apparently choked while eating strawberries. An autopsy is pending.

Original: A 5-year-old girl choked to death Thursday afternoon at her home in the 500 block of South First Avenue.

Her parents called for help shortly before 4 p.m., but she had already stopped breathing by then, and neither police officers' nor paramedics' attempts at CPR could revive her, Arcadia Police Sgt. Dan Crowther said.

She was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. at a local hospital.
