Funeral Set for Father of Three Killed by Intruder

Jose Antonio Parra will be laid to rest Wednesday

Funeral services are set for the father of three killed during an armed robbery while his wife and children waited in another room.

A viewing, followed by a prayer service, for Jose Antonio Parra will take place Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. inside the Sky Rose Chapel at Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier. The mortuary's address is 3888 Workman Mill Road.

The family will hold a funeral and burial Wednesday at 12 p.m. at St Marianna de Paredes Catholic Church at 7922 S. Passons Boulevard in Pico Rivera.

Parra, 35 his wife and children returned from church to their home on the 11000 block of Kristi Court on Dec. 12 to find an armed man lying in wait for them in the garage.

The Sheriff's Department says the suspect pointed a hand gun at the family and demanded money. Fearing for their safety, the family handed over their rent money, about $1,800, to the suspect.

Believing the family had more money in the house, the suspect ordered the mother and children into a back bedroom before demanding more cash from the father, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Shortly afterwards, the family heard gunshots. They left the room to find the Parra dead and the suspect gone.

The suspect is described as Hispanic man, with a light complexion, approximately 5-feet-7-inches inches tall and 150 pounds with a thin build. He has black hair, brown eyes and was wearing dark clothing, a black hoodie sweatshirt and a bandaid under his eye.
