Heat, More Fire Danger on the Way

Increased fire danger continues in the area this week as the weather warms up and combines with low humidity and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Angeles National Forest and Los Angeles County Fire Department officials warned of increased fire risk in the area last week due to dry weather and the presence of tall dry grass, Patch previously reported.

“Critical fire weather conditions” could come to the valleys and mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties—including the San Gabriel Valley--Wednesday through Friday, the NWS warned.

"The very low humidities in combination with the gusty offshore winds and very warm temperatures will bring elevated fire danger to interior portions of southwest California...especially considering the unusually dry fuels for this time of year," the special weather statement reads.

Temperatures will peak Thursday and Friday with highs in the 90s.

Arcadia’s forecast for the week, according to the NWS, is the following:  

• Today: Areas of dense fog before 11am. Otherwise, cloudy early, then clearing, with a high near 79. South southwest wind 5 to 15 mph.
• Tonight: Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 53. South southwest wind 5 to 15 mph.
• Tuesday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 77. Light south southwest wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable.
• Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 82. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east southeast in the morning.
• Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 52.
• Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 93.
• Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 57.
• Friday: Sunny, with a high near 94.
• Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 57.
• Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 89.
• Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.
• Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 78.
