Man Threatening to Jump on to 210 Freeway Snarls Traffic

Lanes in both directions were closed at Vernon Avenue in Azusa.

Traffic on a San Gabriel Valley freeway was snarled as police successfully convinced a man perched on a pedestrian overpass from jumping off a pedestrian overpass.

Lanes in both directions of the Foothill (210) Freeway were closed in the noon hour at Vernon Avenue in Azusa, a California Highway Patrol said. Three mile backups in each direction were reported.

CHP Officer Bruce Kimball said the desperate man was talked to and surrendered, and the lanes were opened at 12:39 p.m., Kimball said.
