Couple Crashes Stolen Vehicle While Fleeing Officers

Police have the woman in custody, and remain on the lookout for the man.

Arcadia Police have an Azusa woman in custody after she and her male companion crashed a stolen rental car during an apparent attempt to flee officers Monday.

Christine Ciaccio, 28, is being held without bail on suspicion of vehicle theft and evading a police officer. Meanwhile, police remain on the lookout for her companion.

Shortly before midnight, an officer attempted to pull the pair over at the intersection of Santa Clara Street and Santa Anita Avenue in Arcadia.

They refused to yield to the officer, and sped off. Minutes later, they crashed into a carport at an apartment complex on Santa Clara Street, just east of 5th Avenue in Monrovia, according to scanner reports.

The two then got out of the vehicle, which police say is owned by Hertz Rent-A-Car, and fled on foot. Arcadia Police Sgt. Brian Ortiz said officers caught Ciaccio almost immediately.

The driver's license used to rent the car belongs to a Florida resident, but police said they don't know whether that person was involved in the incident. Ortiz said Ciaccio has not been cooperating with investigators.

Her companion is described as a 45-year-old white man, 6-feet-tall and 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
