Missing Man Found Dead in Angeles National Forest

The missing 25-year-old man was found dead inside his crashed car in Angeles National Forest by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A 25-year-old man, missing since Sunday, was found dead Monday inside his car that had crashed on the Angeles Forest Highway at Mt. Gleason Road, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crash site was located about 8:15 a.m. Monday by a sheriff's airship that been retracing the last known route taken by the missing man.

"The deputies lowered down from the helicopter and pronounced the man dead inside his car," California Highway Patrol Officer Christian Cracraft told City News Service. "I know they were also trying to ping his cellphone off cell towers to try and fix his location."

Cracraft said the sheriff's department notified the CHP about their grisly find at 9:17 a.m. Monday CHP officers then responded to the scene and took over the investigation, he said.

The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, has now been removed from the scene by the coroner's office and his car has been recovered, Cracraft said.

Aerial television pictures from NBC4 showed a yellow sedan had rolled at least 100 feet from one roadway, towards another. The car was vivid against the gray, burned-out landscape, which was scorched by the Station Fire.
