New iPhone and Android App Sends Tips to Police Department

Arcadia Police continue embrace of social media with new app.

The Arcadia Police Department, in conjunction with Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers, announced Wednesday the launch of TipSubmit, a mobile application for iPhone and Android smartphones that allows users to submit crime tips directly to the police through their phones.

According to a statement released by the APD, TipSubmit is the first mobile application to allow the public to anonymously submit crime tip information to Los Angeles area law enforcement agencies, including the Arcadia Police Department.

Through the app, users can submit anonymous tips to police through SMS text messages. The app uses Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate the nearest law enforcement agency in the area closest to where a crime is reported. Users can also manually select which department their tip should go to.

The app, which is free, is just the latest effort by the Arcadia Police Department to serve and connect with Arcadians through social media. The department also has a very active Twitter account and Facebook page, while also maintaining a frequently updated blog which details crimes, events and happenings at the station. The social media transformation of the department is being led by Sgt. Tom Le Veque.

To download TipSubmit, visit TipSoft.com, the iTunes App Store or the Android Market.
