Parking Tickets Up 220% in Arcadia Since 2007

The city contracted out its parking enforcement in 2007. Since then, the number of parking tickets issued has skyrocketed.

The company hired to take over Arcadia's parking enforcement has written more than 220 percent more citations than when it took over in six years ago, according to city records.

The city contracted with Inter-Con Security Systems to handle its parking enforcement in 2007 and now sees an increase in revenue from citations of about $600,000 annually, a city report states. The City Council will vote Tuesday on a proposal to extend the city's contract with the company from July to December at a cost of $81,124.

"The experience with Inter-Con Security has been positive and the company has proven to be a responsible provider," the report, written by management analyst Jennifer Brutus, states.

Inter-Con also handles parking enforcement in Pasadena, Alhambra, South Pasadena, San Gabriel, La Verne, Glendora and Covina. The company hires and trains its own personnel.

Parking is prohibited on public streets in Arcadia from 2:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.

"These restrictions were enacted to increase safety and security, as well as enhance the city's aesthetics," the report states.
