Police Blotter: Woman Attacked at Bus Stop

The Arcadia Police Department also made two DUI-related arrests.

For the period of Sunday, Oct. 28-Nov. 3, the Arcadia Police Department responded to 976 calls for service, 131 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

DUI

At about 2:16 a.m. on Oct. 28, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on Santa Anita Avenue. The officer reportedly smelled alcohol inside the vehicle. The 26-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Home Damaged by Fire Burglarized

Around 2:41 p.m. on Oct 26, officers arrived at the 2000 block of Longley Way regarding a residential burglary at a fire-damaged home. One of the residents had returned home to collect some belongings when he saw a man inside. The suspect said he was a neighbor looking for his dog. The victim knew the suspect was not a neighbor of his, and called police. The suspect fled the area the moment the victim picked up the phone. The suspect is described as a white man, 6-feet tall, 25-30 years old, with brown hair.

At approximately 3:47 p.m. on Oct. 29, an officer responded to the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Second Avenue regarding a medical assist. Upon arrival, saw an unconscious man behind the wheel of the car. The victim was sweating profusely, with his fists clenched and his head jerking back and forth. The officer attempted to gain the man's attention by banging on the window, but the car moved forward several feet toward passing vehicles. The officer smashed out the passenger window, opened the door, and placed the car in park. Arcadia Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene moments later, and the victim was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital.

Shoplifting

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 30, an officer responded to JC Penney at the Santa Anita Mall regarding two teens in custody on suspicion of theft. The 16 and 17-year old boys had allegedly concealed clothing inside their backpacks and exited the store without paying for the items.  Police took custody of the juveniles, transported them to the Arcadia City Jail for booking and released them to their parents.

Cell Phone Stolen at Forever 21

At about 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 30, an officer was dispatched to the 000 block of Renoak Way regarding a theft that occurred earlier in the evening at Forever 21 at the Santa Anita Mall. The victim reported her cell phone had been stolen from a secured, employee locker while she was working. Investigation suggested no forced entry into the locker, and that the locker might have been left unlocked during the victim's work shift.

Woman Ill in CVS Parking Lot

At 7:47 p.m. on Oct. 31, an officer responded to CVS Pharmacy at 9952 Las Tunas Drive regarding an upset woman who appeared to have been robbed. Upon arrival, the officer contacted a woman sitting in her parked car. Investigation revealed that no crime had occurred. The woman was incoherent, weak, paranoid and unable to care for her own well-being. The officer transported the 63-year-old to Arcadia Methodist Hospital and released her to medical staff for psychological evaluation.

Unlicensed Driver

At about 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 31, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Camino Real and Santa Anita Avenue on a green Toyota Camry without a front license plate. A records check revealed the driver did not have a license. The 40-year-old driver was cited and released at the scene.

Motorcyclist Arrested for Warrant, Driving on a Suspended License

At approximately 7:13 p.m. on Nov. 1, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Santa Clara Street and Santa Anita Avenue on a motorcycle for a defective light. The motorcyclist was reportedly driving with a suspended license and had a warrant out for his arrest. The 42-year-old was taken to the Arcadia City Jail.

DUI Arrest

At about 2:17 a.m. on Nov. 2, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for swerving between the lanes on Baldwin Avenue near Huntington Drive. The officer reportedly smelled alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The 34-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.

Coin Machine Theft

Around 10:48 a.m. on Nov. 3, officers responded to the 300 block of S. Baldwin Avenue regarding a commercial burglary. Someone had forcibly entered an apartment complex laundry room, pried open two coin machines and stole approximately $200. The suspects were not seen or heard during the incident.

Woman Attacked at Bus Stop

At approximately 6:29 p.m. on Nov. 3, officers were dispatched to the area of Huntington Drive and Santa Clara Street regarding a battery. A 24-year-old woman reported that a man had walked up to her while she was waiting at a bus stop. He reportedly pushed her and spit on her before walking away. The woman said that the battery was unprovoked and she had never seen the man before.
