Police Blotter: Arcadia High Student Arrested for Allegedly Setting Toilet Paper Fire

Police say a 14-year-old started a blaze in the men's bathroom.

From the Arcadia Police Department:

For the period of Sunday, June 2nd, through Saturday, June 8th, the Police Department responded to 962 calls for service of which 134 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.


Sunday, June 2:

Around 9:00 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a theft report. While the victim was walking around the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, unknown suspect(s) stole her cell phone from inside her purse. When the victim called the phone, a female subject answered and explained she would return the phone in exchange for $200. The victim declined the suspect’s request and reported her phone stolen.

Just after 8:00 p.m., an officer responded to 24-Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, in reference to a battery report. While inside the sauna, the victim asked another subject to lower her music because it was too loud. Shortly after, the subject became upset, punched the victim in the chest, and fled the location. The suspect is described as approximately 23-years-old, 135 lbs., with black hair, wearing a grey t-shirt and black pants. She can be identified if seen again.

Monday, June 3:

At approximately 1:23 p.m., an officer responded to Citibank, 100 South First Avenue, in regards to a silent robbery alarm. Officers confirmed an attempted robbery had just occurred and conducted an area check for the male suspect, but he was not located. An investigation revealed the suspect entered the location holding a black cassette case with D-cell batteries attached to the bottom, which he claimed was a bomb. The suspect demanded money from a bank teller and stated he was forced to commit the robbery by someone outside who was also in possession of the trigger. Due to the teller’s slow pace, the suspect fled the location without obtaining any money. The suspect is described as 23 to 30-years-old, with blond hair, wearing a red sweater and khaki shorts. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  

Just after 9:10 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Rosemarie Drive in regards to a disturbance between a landlord and tenants. The tenants became upset after the landlord attempted to rent out a portion of the home to another family. The officer discovered the location is being used as a birthing home. Further investigation is being conducted by the Special Investigations Detective.

Tuesday, June 4:

At about 00:29 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Arcadia Fire Station 106, 630 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a welfare check on two subjects who were sitting on a nearby curb for several hours. The officer discovered the 28-year-old female subject and her 3-year-old son had been reported missing. The mother was under the influence of a controlled substance, had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, and neglected to feed or bathe her son. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and the juvenile was taken into protective custody by the Department of Child and Family Services.

At roughly 8:50 a.m., an officer responded to CVS, 188 Las Tunas Drive, in regards to a suspicious subject inside the store. The subject had been inside the store for an extended period, but had not purchased anything. The officer made contact with the subject and discovered he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. The 33-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, June 5:

At approximately 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the suspected birthing home residence in the 600 block of Rosemarie Drive regarding a civil dispute. The tenant explained the location’s electricity was turned off for an unknown reason; however, he suspected the landlord terminated the service in attempt to “force” his family out of the house. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

Around 9:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of West Woodruff Avenue in regards to a residential burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through a back door, ransacked the location, and fled undetected. The loss was unknown at the time of the report and no evidence was located.

Thursday, June 6:

At about 7:56 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the area of Second Avenue and Diamond Street in reference to a suspicious male subject loitering around carports. Officers located the subject on Bonita Street and discovered he was in possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, shaved keys, and had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The 44-year-old White male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Shortly after 10:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive, in regards to a fire inside a male bathroom. Arcadia Fire Station 105 responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. An investigation revealed a 14-year-old male student used a lighter to set a toilet paper dispenser on fire. The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Friday, June 7:

At about 9:00 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a traffic collision on Diamond Street, east of South First Avenue. The driver of a grey Toyota lost control of her vehicle, drove up a driveway, and collided into the front of a residence. The driver was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for treatment. The officer determined alcohol was not a factor.

Just after 2:35 p.m., an officer observed a male subject vomiting outside of his vehicle in the 600 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. The officer discovered the subject was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The 34-year-old Chinese male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, June 8:

At approximately 7:15 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a theft report. Four suspects stole several sunglasses from the Sunglass Hut and fled through the Macy’s parking lot. One suspect, a 27-year-old White female, was located and found to be in possession of stolen merchandise. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Around 7:56 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Longden Avenue and Fifth Avenue in reference to an elderly woman in need of medical attention. The officer made contact with the subject who explained she was attacked by her daughter. Arcadia Fire responded to the scene and transported the victim to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Shortly after, officers made contact with the victim’s daughter who admitted to assaulting her mother. The 63-year-old White female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
