POLICE BLOTTER: Assault on a Peace Officer

An irate woman allegedly kicked a police officer.

For the period of Nov. 20-26, the responded to 794 calls for service, 131 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Nov. 20:

At about 4:30 p.m., an officer responded to at the regarding a vandalism report. The victim and another driver simultaneously attempted to park in the same parking spot. However, the victim parked in the slot before the other driver and observed him speed off. When the victim returned after shopping, she noticed her entire vehicle had been keyed except for the roof and rear bumper.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., an officer responded to at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall regarding a woman in custody for theft. The suspect attempted to make a purchase with a fraudulent credit card. The officer found nine fraudulent credit cards and an altered identification card inside the suspect's wallet. The officer arrested the 32-year-old on suspicion of commercial burglary, fraudulent use of an access card and possession of a fraudulently altered California Identification Card.

Nov. 21:

Around 2:10 a.m., an officer entered the parking lot of the at 102 East Huntington Drive to run a license plate check on a parked motorcycle. The officer discovered the registration had expired and noticed the motorcyclist waiting in the parking lot. A search of the motorcylist uncovered a box containing small baggies of methamphetamines. The officer arrested the 50-year-old man on suspicion of possession of carcotics for sale and transported him to Arcadia City Jail without incident.

A victim of fraud filed a report at the Arcadia Police Department front counter. His bank notified him that someone in Nevada withdrew a large amount of money from the victim's account. The victim had his credit card at the time of the report and does not know how anyone got his information.

Nov. 22:

Shortly after 9 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Peck Road and Live Oak Avenue . The vehicle had tinted windows and a warrant connected with its license plate. The officer learned the driver had never been issued a license. The officer arrested the 33-year-old driver and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

At about 3:28 p.m., an officer responded to at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall regarding a reported theft. A 16-year-old girl had allegedly concealed merchandise inside a used shopping bag and left the store without paying. The officer determined the teen had also stolen from other stores. The officer arrested her and released to her parents.

Nov. 23:

At approximately 4:24 a.m., an officer was dispatched to at 1326 South Baldwin Avenue regarding an activated burglary alarm Upon arrival, the officer saw the glass of the front double doors had been shattered. No items were reported stolen, and the incident was recorded on the store's surveillance cameras. The Detective Bureau is conducting further investigation.

Around 9:50 a.m., officers cruising in the 000 block of East Colorado Boulevard saw a man with a backpack riding on the sidewalk. The officers watched the man enter a residential driveway. The officers saw the man leave his backpack in an unattached garage. The officers stopped the man, who had resumed riding his bicycle. A pair of wire cutters and numerous burglary tools were found inside the backpack. Officers arrested the 49-year-old man on suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Nov.24:

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., an officer responded to a new residential construction site in the 500 block of West Woodruff Avenue regarding a report of a suspicious vehicle. Dispatch told the offices two men were seen entering the property empty handed and left carrying an orange bucket. The officer located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop for bald tires. Through investigation, the officer determined the driver, a 28-year-old man was driving without a license and had four misdemeanor warrants for his arrest, and the passenger, a 29-year-old man, had one misdemeanor warrant. The officer learned the suspects took a bucket of security wire from the construction site without permission. They were arrested without incident.  

On Nov. 23, a victim of fraud received a package in the mail containing an Apple iPad. The victim thought it was a gift until she saw her name listed as the purchaser on the packing slip. The victim discovered two online credit accounts had been opened in her name. She is unaware of who may have opened the accounts.

Nov. 25:

When at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall opened for business there were many sweaters on display at the front of the store. Within minutes of the store opening, a sales associate noticed fifteen sweaters missing. No customers were seen purchasing the items. It is believed that unknown suspect(s) took the merchandise and fled undetected as numerous customers were entering.

At about 3:13 p.m., an officer responded to the 2000 block of Lee Avenue regarding an attempted burlary report. The victim was away from her home while it was being fumigated, and when she returned she observed a key jammed in the door lock of a rear sliding glass door. Fingerprints were recovered from the door handle and no property was reported missing. 

Nov. 26:

Around 3 p.m., an officer responded to Santa Anita Avenue and Campus Drive regarding an injury hit and run. The victim was riding his bike southbound on Santa Anita Avenue near the curb line at Campus Drive when a vehicle made a right turn into his path of travel, and failed to slow down or stop. The bicyclist collided with the rear passenger side of the vehicle and suffered abrasions to his head.The vehicle is described as a light blue Honda CRV.

At approximately 3:51 p.m., officers responded to at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall regarding a disturbance. A customer became upset after the store owner refused to return her purchase of jade jewelry, which she believed was not real. After learning the owner would only provide exchanges, the customer kicked a display case and caused damage to a window pane and merchandise. The subject pushed two security officers as they tried to escort her out of the store and kicked an police officer who attempted to make contact with her. The 49-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of vandalism, battery, and battery on a police officer.
