Police Blotter: Baby Falls Out of Window

A 1-year-old apparently broke her leg when she fell from a window.

For the period of Aug. 12-18, the responded to 1,028 calls for service, 122 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Shoplifting

Around 3:42 p.m. on Aug. 12, an officer responded to at the regarding a theft report. An woman reportedly concealed various items inside her purse and exited the store without paying. Police arrested the 21-year-old suspect and transported her to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Drunk in Public

At approximately 9:12 p.m. on Aug. 12, an officer made contact with a man witnesses reported seen carrying a beer can while loitering behind the Art Institute of Arcadia at 17 East Huntington Drive. The officer determined the 45-year-old was too intoxicated to care for himself and arrested him.

Driving Without a License

At 9:03 a.m. on Aug. 13, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of East Colorado Boulevard on a tan Yukon with expired registration tags. A records check revealed the driver did not have a license. The officer cited and released the 42-year-old driver in the field. His vehicle was left legally parked.

Traffic Collision

At 8:27 p.m. on Aug. 13, officers were dispatched to a traffic collision at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and the eastbound 210 freeway on-ramp. When party-one came to a stop for the red light on southbound Baldwin Avenue, party-two struck him from behind. An investigation revealed party-two was unable to stop in time because he was speeding. No injuries were reported.

Grand Theft

Shortly after 12:40 p.m. on Aug. 14, an officer responded to regarding a theft report. A man allegedly grabbed a bundle of clothes worth over $4,000 and exited the store without paying. Witnesses reported seeing him enter a white sedan — possibly a KIA — and flee northbound on Baldwin Avenue. The suspect is described as Asian, approximately 18-years-old, 5-foot-5, with short black spiky hair. He wore shorts and a T-shirt. The incident was recorded on video surveillance.

Methamphetamine Possession

At about 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 14, an officer conducted a traffic stop on First Avenue at Alta Street for expired registration. An investigation revealed the driver did not have a license. He also allegedly possessed methamphetamine. Officers arrested the 51-year-old driver.
    
DUI Arrest

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Aug. 15, an officer observed a vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection of Naomi Avenue and Golden West Road. The officer reportedly noticed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver's person and vehicle. The officer also suspected the driver of possessing a controlled substance and arrested him.

Credit Card Fraud

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. The victim discovered unknown suspect(s) used her credit card account to buy flights to Panama City. The victim had her credit card in her possession at the time of the report and had no idea how her information was compromised.

Child Falls From Window

Around 1:08 a.m. on Aug. 16, an officer responded to the regarding a report of possible child abuse. A 1-year-old girl's relatives had taken her to the hospital after she fell out of a window and broke her leg. The infant reportedly pushed through a window screen when nobody was watching. Doctors deemed the injury an accident, and the Department of Child and Family Services found no signs of abuse or neglect.

Laundry Theft

At approximately 12:35 p.m on Aug. 16., an officer was dispatched to an apartment complex in the 800 block of West Huntington Drive regarding a laundry theft report. The victim explained that he had left several loads of clothes unattended in the machines of the complex's communal laundry room and discovered them missing a short time later.

Construction Site Burglary

At about 9:50 a.m. on Aug. 17, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Hampton Road regarding a commercial burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a residential construction site, stole numerous tools worth over $2,000 and fled undetected. The officer dusted for latent fingerprints but found none.

Sister Thieves

At almost 8:41 p.m. on Aug. 17, an officer responded to regarding a theft investigation. A pair of sisters allegedly concealed merchandise inside used shopping bags and exited the store without paying. They also reportedly stole from Macy's. The 27 and 21-year-old woman were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Parolee Suspected of Meth Possession

At about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 18, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Second Avenue and Santa Clara Street for a broken tail light. The driver, a parolee, reportedly had possession of methamphetamine. Officers arrested the 43-year-old, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking and placed on a parole hold.

Man Attempting to Vandalize Ex-Girlfriend's Home, Mistakenly Vandalizes Her Neighbor's Home.

Shortly after 6:26 p.m. on Aug. 18, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Longden Avenue regarding a report of a suspicious man vandalizing a neighbor's house. The man had reportedly attempted to vandalize his ex-girlfriend's house, but mistook her home for her neighbor's. A records check revealed the 45-year-old had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
