For the period of Sunday, July 15-21, the A responded to 958 calls for service, 125 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Around 12:29 a.m. on July 15, officers detained two men in the parking lot of the at 401 East Santa Clara Street after witnesses reported seeing the men opening unlocked vehicles. Officers found several items believed stolen from the vehicles on the men. The 22-year-old and 18-year-old suspects were arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property and booked at the Arcadia City Jail.
At approximately 8:29 p.m. on July 15, officers were called to a business office in the 500 block of South First Avenue. The office had been burglarized sometime over the weekend. The suspect(s) forced entry to the office door and once inside, broke through the drywall into two adjacent offices. Several pieces of office equipment and other devices were taken in the burglary.
Construction Site Burglary
Shortly after 7 a.m. on July 16, a burglary to a residence under construction was reported. The home is located in the 00 block of West Pamela Road and the crime occurred sometime overnight. Suspect(s) forced open a locked rear door and made entry to the home. Several fixtures and small appliance items were removed and stolen.
At about 4:08 p.m. on July 16, a vehicle theft was reported in the 100 block of East Camino Real Avenue. The vehicle was parked in a residential driveway and the crime occurred overnight. The victim had left the doors unlocked and the suspect(s) removed paperwork and a small amount of cash from the car.
Assault With a Deadly Weapon
Shortly before 3 p.m. on July 17, officers were called to a home in the 600 block of Santa Cruz Road. Two house guests had been involved in a dispute over a drinking problem. When one guest attempted to remove the other, the dispute became physical. The suspect allegedly punched the victim and slashed a knife toward the victim’s leg. Officers arrived and detained the suspect. A 41-year-old man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and was booked at the Arcadia City Jail.
At about 3:49 p.m. on July 17, loss prevention agents from reported they had detained an employee for theft. Officers learned the employee had conducted many fraudulent returns to obtain gift cards. The employee later used the gift cards to make purchases, and then returned those items for cash. A 31-year-old man was arrested for commercial burglary and booked at the Arcadia City Jail.
Grand Theft Auto
Around 1:02 p.m. on July 18, an officer was alerted to a reported stolen vehicle being driven on Colorado Place near Huntington Drive. The alert was from the automated license plate reader in the patrol unit. The officer found the stolen vehicle parked at the Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, and detained the driver. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Santa Monica the day before. The suspect was arrested and booked at the Arcadia City Jail for suspicion of auto theft.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on July 18, an officer was called to a residence in the 1800 block of Oakwood Avenue on report of a residential burglary. The suspect(s) pried open a rear sliding glass door and entered the home. After ransacking bedrooms looking for property, the suspect(s) fled, taking two laptop and other miscellaneous property with them. The crime occurred between 10:15 a.m. and 7:15 p.m., while the family was away.
Stolen Chop Saw
At approximately 9:19 a.m. on July 19, an officer responded to a home in the 1000 block of Rodeo Road. The resident discovered a lock had been cut on the entry door to a garage sometime overnight. Suspect(s) entered the garage and stole a chop saw and a paint sprayer.
Around 8:15 p.m. on July 19, two victims of identity theft came to the police station to file a report. The husband and wife live in the 1200 block of South Golden West Avenue and in review of their credit card statement, learned two balance transfer checks had been fraudulently used from their account. The victims also failed to receive a newly issued credit card and found a charge had been made on that account. Although they suffered no financial loss, it appears the couple was possibly victim of mail and identity theft.
Dog Left in Hot Car
At about 12:49 p.m. on July 20, officers were flagged down in the parking lot of the Westfield Santa Anita Mall regarding a dog left inside a parked car. Although several vehicle windows were ajar, the outside temperature was about 90 degrees and the interior temperature of the vehicle caused the dog to be in distress. Officers were able to open the vehicle, remove the dog, and the Pasadena Humane Society responded and took possession of the animal. Over an hour later, the dog owner returned to the vehicle. The incident was documented and will be presented to the District Attorney for consideration of criminal charges.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. on July 20, the victim of an auto burglary reported their SUV had been broken into while parked at the Santa Anita Mall. The crime occurred between noon and 2:30 p.m. Suspect(s) made entry by unknown means and removed the vehicle’s 3rd row seat.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on July 21, loss prevention agents at detained a woman for theft. The female was seen placing clothing into a shopping bag and leaving without paying for the items. During the investigation, stolen items from the Bath and Body Works were also found. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and booked at the Arcadia City Jail.
Drunk Man Assaults Officer
At about 10 p.m. on July 21, officers were working traffic control at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Gate 8, related to a concert event at the Arboretum. A couple walked into the roadway, against traffic signals, and was told to step out of traffic by an officer. The couple continued to cross the roadway toward the officer. When confronted, the man reportedly shoved the officer in the chest. Officers determined the man was intoxicated and arrested him on suspicion of battery on a peace officer and being drunk in public. The suspect was booked at the Arcadia City Jail.
