Police Blotter: Guns Stolen in Residential Burglary

The Arcadia Police Department also dealt with a robbery at the Santa Anita Mall.

For the period of July 8-14, the responded to 921 calls for service, 110 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Driving Without a License

Around 8:38 a.m. on July 8, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding in the area of Duarte Road and El Monte Avenue. The officer discovered the driver did not have a license. The 34-year-old man was cited and released in the field while his vehicle was impounded.

Shoplifting

At approximately 2:20 p.m. on July 8, an officer responded to at the regarding a theft report. A woman allegedly concealed merchandise inside a used shopping bag and exited the store without paying. The 59-year-old suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Robbery at the Mall

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on July 9, officers were dispatched to Macy’s at the Santa Anita Mall regarding a battery report. An woman had allegedly concealed merchandise inside her purse and exited the store without paying. When the loss prevention agent attempted to detain the suspect in the parking lot, the suspect's husband reportedly punched the loss prevention agent in the head. Both suspects fled on foot. However, police later detained them in the 500 block of Huntington Drive. The 29-year-old woman and 34-year-old husband were arrested on robbery charges and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Residential Burglary, Handguns Stolen

At about 4:10 p.m. on July 9, an officer responded to the 1000 block of Whispering Oaks Drive regarding a burglary report. The victim discovered unknown suspect(s) had forced entry through the front door, ransacked the bedrooms and stole three handguns. No suspects or witnesses were located.

Drug Possession

Around 12:28 a.m. on July 10, officers conducted a traffic stop on a black Toyota Celica for making an illegal turn in the area of Baldwin Avenue and Fairview Avenue. The officer arrested the 29-year-old female driver on suspicion of providing false information, driving without a license and being in possession of a controlled substance/drug paraphernalia.

Traffic Collision

At about 2:52 p.m. on July 10, an officer responded to a two-party traffic collision at the intersection of Huntington Drive and Centennial Way. One driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Huntington Drive. The driver at fault turned directly in front of the other driver as she entered the intersection. No injuries were reported.

Commercial Burglary

Around 11:45 a.m. on July 11, loss prevention personnel at detained a 19-year-old woman on suspicion of theft. The woman allegedly concealed numerous items in a shopping bag hanging on her baby’s stroller and left the store without paying. She had reportedly committed several other thefts and fraudulent returns at various other local Nordstom locations. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking on charges of commercial burglary. Police released her 2-year-old daughter to a responsible party and contacted the Department of Children and Family Services for a follow-up evaluation.

Hit and Run

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. on July 11, the victim of a hit and run collision came to the police station to file a report. The victim had been parked in a business parking lot at 650 West Duarte Road. A witness reported seeing a silver Toyota Camry strike the victim’s parked car. The driver of the offending vehicle allegedly failed to leave notification and left the scene. He was described as an Asian male between 55- and 65-years-old. The California license plate on the Toyota was similar to 6UVX261. 

Identity Theft

At approximately 6:41 p.m. on July 12, a resident who lives in the 500 block of West Duarte Road came to the police station to file a fraud report. The victim received a collections notice for an overdue credit account exceeding $9,000. The victim contacted the company and learned someone had used his address and personal information to open a fraudulent account.

Credit Card Fraud

Around 9:07 p.m. on July 12, an officer accepted a fraud report via the police department online reporting portal from a victim who lives in Tehachapi, CA. The victim stated unknown suspects used a fraudulent credit card to purchase goods and services on two occasions at the KKTV Lounge at 612 East Live Oak Avenue. The suspect or suspects charged over $1,800 on the card.

DUI

At about 2:01 a.m. on July 13, an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Huntington Drive at Holly Avenue. The officer reported smelling alcohol on the driver's breath and seeing an open container inside the car. The 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Vehicle Burglary

At approximately 8 a.m. on July 13, an officer responded to a carport in the 900 block of Arcadia Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary report. Sometime during the night, someone had smashed a side window of the victim’s vehicle and stolen a purse and some clothing.

Officers stopped a vehicle on Santa Clara Street and Fifth Avenue at about 3:27 p.m. on July 14. They had learned of a traffic warrant associated with the vehicle's license plate prior to performing the traffic stop. The female driver had no identification, but provided a name to the officer. The officer used a Bluecheck device to scan the woman's thumb print. The device revealed the woman's true name and birth date to the officer in the field. The 25-year-old woman was arrested on three outstanding warrants and on suspicion of providing false information. She was booked at the Arcadia City Jail.

Vehicle Burglary

At about 10:20 p.m. on July 14, an officer responded to the 400 block of Cambridge Drive on report of a vehicle burglary. The victim discovered someone had smashed a side window of the victim's SUV sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
