Police Blotter: Teen Reportedly Brings Marijuana to School

Also, A man is knocked unconscious during a fight over a basketball game at 24 Fitness.

For the period of Feb. 17-23, the Arcadia Police Department responded to 933 calls for service, 127 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the department during this period.

Methamphetamine Found in Car

At 1:10 a.m. on Feb. 17, an officer stopped a vehicle at Santa Anita Avenue and Colorado Boulevard for having a missing bumper. The officer learned the driver did not have a license. He also reportedly had methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia in the car. The officer arrested the 37-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Brick Thrown Through Window of Home

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Feb. 17, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Grandview Boulevard regarding a burglary alarm. Officers discovered someone had thrown a brick through a second story window. However, it did not appear that anyone had entered the home.

Physical Altercation Between Husband and Wife

At 12:10 a.m. on Feb. 18, officers responded to the 2000 block of S. Santa Anita Avenue regarding a domestic disturbance. An argument between a husband and wife had reportedly escalated to a physical altercation. The husband had allegedly pushed the wife and forced her to surrender her car keys. The 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of battery.

Residential Burglary

At 12:14 p.m. on Feb. 18, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of N. Old Ranch Road regarding a residential burglary. Officers discovered suspect(s) had smashed a bathroom window and entered the home. Several rooms were ransacked, and a television stolen. There were no surveillance cameras or witnesses.

AHS Student Reportedly Brings Marijuana to Campus

At 2:51 p.m. on Feb. 19, officers were dispatched to Arcadia High School regarding a student detained on suspicion of possession of marijuana. Police reportedly found marijuana in his backpack. The 15-year-old boy was arrested for possession of marijuana and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing. He was subsequently released to his father.

Public Intoxication

At 2:09 p.m. on Feb. 19, an officer awoke a man asleep on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of Baldwin Avenue. Upon speaking with the man, the officer reportedly smelled alcohol on his breath. The officer arrested the 46-year-old man on suspicion of public intoxication.

DUI Arrest

At 2:18 a.m. on Feb. 20, officers pulled a vehicle missing its front license plate over on Live Oak Avenue at Santa Anita Avenue. Officers reportedly smelled the odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. Officers arrested the 25-year-old driver on suspicion of driving under the influence and transported her to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Shoplifting from Macy's

At approximately 9:16 p.m. on Feb. 20, officers responded to Macy's at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall regarding a woman in custody on suspicion of theft. She had allegedly concealed several accessories and clothing items in a bag and exited the store without paying for the items. The 44-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary.

Auto Burglary

At 7:08 a.m. on Feb. 21, an officer responded to the 300 block of W. Walnut Avenue regarding an auto burglary. Someone had smashed one of the car's windows and stolen a computer.

Warrant Arrest

At 11:54 a.m. on Feb. 21, officers stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of S. Baldwin Avenue.  A records check revealed the vehicle's driver had an outstanding warrant. Officers arrested the 26-year-old man on the warrant and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Laptops Stolen From AHS Classroom

At 7:05 a.m. on Feb. 22, officers were dispatched to Arcadia High School regarding a theft. Someone had entered a classroom overnight and stolen six laptops.

Shoplifting From Sephora

At 8:40 p.m. on Feb. 22, officers responded to Sephora at the Westfield Shopping Town, 400 S. Baldwin Avenue, regarding a female suspect in custody for theft. The suspect concealed several items of makeup in a bag, and exited the store without paying. The 25-year-old woman was arrested for petty theft and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.

Assault at 24 Hour Fitness

At 12:23 a.m. on Feb. 23, officers were dispatched to Arcadia Methodist Hospital regarding a battery that occurred earlier at 24 Hour Fitness, 125 N. First Avenue. An argument during a basketball game turned into a physical altercation. The victim was reportedly knocked unconscious after being pushed, punched and kicked in the face several times by the suspects.

Methamphetamine Arrest

At about 12:55 a.m. on Feb. 23, officers stopped a vehicle on Santa Anita Avenue and Duarte Road for having an  altered license plate. A consensual search of the vehicle reportedly turned up methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested the 19-year-old driver—who did not have a license—on suspicion of transportation of narcotics and his 49-year-old passenger on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Both were transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
