Police Blotter: Vandalism and Theft

Police received several reports of vandalism and theft this week.

For the period of Sept. 25 through Oct. 1, the responded to 982 calls for service, 129 of which required formal investigations.  The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sept. 25:

At about 2:11 a.m., a traffic stop was conducted on Santa Anita Avenue at Alta Street for speeding. Police determined the 31-year-old man was intoxicated and placed him under arrest for D.U.I.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Highland Oaks Drive regarding a vandalism report. The victim told officers that at approximately 4:27 a.m., he heard a loud crash and immediately looked out his window and saw a man, 18-20 years old, and wearing a dark colored sweatshirt. The suspect reportedly left in a white, 2-door vehicle. The victim went to inspect his vehicle and discovered both the rear window and rear driver's side window had been broken. No property was reported missing.

Sept. 26:

Several acts of vandalism similar in nature occurred sometime over the weekend in the 900 block of Santa Anita Avenue, the 100 block of West Lemon Avenue, and the 100 block of West Longden Avenue. Graffiti was found in spray paint along the west side walls of each location, however, the victims and locations are not related, and do not appear to be specific targets of these acts of vandalism.

Between 1 p.m. and 1:10 p.m., a theft occurred in the 600 block of West Camino Real Avenue. The suspect(s) stole a lawnmower through an open gate in the backyard.

Sept. 27:

Between Sept. 24 at 4:30 p.m. and Sept. 27 at 7:30 a.m., suspect(s) lit newspapers on fire near a bench. Burnt ashes were discovered outside of the at 380 West Huntington Drive.

At about 6:32 p.m., officers responded to the lobby of the Arcadia Police Department regarding a fraud report. A woman said that on Sept. 24, she received a letter in the mail from an individual claiming to be an investment banker. The letter solicited personal information with an offer to split an alleged inheritance. The letter also contained a fraudulent phone number that appeared to be from outside the United States.

Sept. 28:

Between Sept. 26 at 7 a.m., and Sept. 28 at 2 p.m., a theft occurred in the 400 block of North Altura Road. The suspect(s) forced open the rear gate to an unoccupied home listed for sale and stole the swimming pool pump.

Officers stopped a pedestrian at the intersection of Duarte Road and Mayflower Avenue at about 11:05 a.m. A records check of the 40-year-old man revealed an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, for which officers placed him under arrest.

Sept. 29:

At about 2:36 p.m., officers responded to Firestone at 1500 South Baldwin Avenue regarding vandalism. Sometime between Sept. 28 at 5 p.m., and Sept. 29 at 2 p.m., suspect(s) fired a pellet or BB gun at the establishment, damaging several windows.

At approximately 7 a.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of South Fourth Avenue regarding a theft. The victim told officers that at about 6:45 a.m., he noticed the trunk and rear passenger side door to his vehicle open. A man wearing a light colored long sleeve shirt and light colored pants was caught on a surveillance camera walking up to the victim's vehicle and entering it at about 3:48 a.m. to steal cash.

Two similar acts of vandalism were reported in the 200 block of East Santa Clara Street. Sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., suspect(s) scratched two separate vehicles parked at the location. The marks appeared to have been caused by a sharp object, and it is unknown if the victims were specifically targeted.

A victim came to the station at about 8 p.m. to report the theft of a package from the 100 block of Las Tunas Drive. The victim reported seeing a Hispanic man in a white T-shirt and dark pants in his 30's pick up a box from her front porch and drive away in  a green, medium size sedan, possibly a Toyota with a license plate similar to 4KZ800 CA. A woman, also approximately 30-years-old, was seen in the passenger side of the car. The crime occurred at about 3:15 p.m.

Oct. 1:

At about 11:43 p.m., officers responded to the area of Santa Anita Avenue, north of Arno Drive, regarding a graffiti report. Several words were found spray painted along the east guardrail in red spray paint.

Shortly before 1 p.m., loss prevention personnel from at the detained a teen for theft. The suspect took merchandise into a fitting room, concealed it and walked out of the store. Officers determined that the 17-year-old boy came into the store with the intent to steal, and placed him under arrest for commercial burglary.
