Police Blotter: Woman Allegedly Hits Grandparents With Hammer

The Arcadia Police Department also conducted two vehicle pursuits.

For the period of July 1- 7, the responded to 889 calls for service, 97 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Around 8:21 a.m. on July 1, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an illegally modified exhaust system, on Baldwin Avenue north of Gate Eight. An investigation revealed the driver was in possession of a controlled substance. The 28-year-old man was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Shoplifting at the Mall

At approximately 2:23 p.m. on July 1, an officer was dispatched to at the regarding a theft report. A woman reportedly concealed merchandise inside her purse and exited the store without paying. A search of her person allegedly revealed she also stole from another store. The 44-year-old woman was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Burglary

Just before 1 a.m. on July 2, an officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive regarding a burglary investigation. Three teenage boys allegedly forced entry through a window and fled with various electronic items. A neighbor saw the incident and provided descriptions of the three suspects, whom the victim identified as friends of his teenage son. All three suspects were located, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking and later released to their parents.

Woman Hits Grandparents With Hammer

At about 5:02 p.m. on July 2, an officer responded to the 1000 block of West Duarte Road regarding a welfare check. A woman in the home allegedly hit her grandmother with a hammer, which grazed the elder woman's arm and back. She later reportedly threw the hammer at her grandfather. The victims reported having no injuries and declined medical attention. The 28-year-old woman was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Elder Abuse, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. The victims declined prosecution and Adult Protective Service was contacted.

DUI-Related Rollover Traffic Collision

Shortly after 6:11 a.m. on July 3, an officer was dispatched to a solo rollover traffic collision in the 1600 block of Rodeo Road. An investigation reportedly revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and lost control of her vehicle. She collided with a curb and rolled several times before landing on the front lawn of a neighborhood property. The 20-year-old woman was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Teen Accused of Prescription Drug Abuse

At about 2:18 p.m. on July 3, officers responded to the Santa Anita Mall regarding a vandalism report. Mall security suspected a group of juveniles of vandalizing an elevator. The officer discovered one juvenile allegedly in possession of Xanax pills. The 14-year-old boy was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking and later released to his mother.

Residential Burglary

Around 10:48 a.m. July 4, officers were dispatched to the 000 block of Cabrillo Road in reference to a residential burglary report. The victim discovered unknown suspect(s) ransacked his vehicle and entered his house through an unlocked garage door. Various items were reported missing and no one saw or heard anything suspicious.

Illegal Fireworks

Shortly after 8:20 p.m. on July 4, officers responded to a residence in the 000 block of West Longden Avenue regarding a report of illegal aerial fireworks. As officers walked toward the residence they observed fireworks launching from the backyard. The owner of the residence denied setting off aerial fireworks and refused to allow officers in her house or backyard where witnesses saw the fireworks being lit. The report was forwarded to the District Attorney for filing considerations.

Misdemeanor Warrant

At approximately 8:07 a.m. on July 5, an officer conducted a transient check in the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue. A records check revealed the subject was a parolee-at-large and had one outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The 52-year-old man was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Drug-Related Arrest

Around 4:15 p.m., an officer conducted a license plate check on an occupied vehicle located in the parking lot of the , 401 East Santa Clara Street. The officer discovered the driver had one outstanding felony warrant and the passenger was on probation. A vehicle search revealed the driver allegedly was in possession of drug paraphernalia, and methamphetamine and marijuana for sales. The 44-year-old man was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. 

Burglary Suspects Arrested

At about 1:09 a.m. on July 6, an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle for not having a license plate lamp, on Huntington Drive near Arcadia City Hall. An investigation revealed the driver and passenger were in possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, stolen property, and burglary tools. Two residential burglary victims identified property found inside the vehicle. The 42-year-old male driver and 39-year-old female passenger were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Stolen Vehicle

At approximately 7:28 a.m., an officer conducted a records check on a white Honda Civic with three male occupants while at the intersection of Lower Azusa Road and Peck Road, and discovered it was reported stolen. The officer initiated a traffic stop. However the vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit was terminated in the area of Los Angeles Street and the 605 freeway, where the vehicle lost control, collided with two parked cars, and sped off out of sight. The unidentified suspects remain at large.

Vehicle Pursuit

Shortly after 1:59 a.m. on July 7, officers attempted a traffic stop on a blue Chevy with two occupants for lane swerving on Live Oak Avenue, west of the Arrow Highway exchange. However, the vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. As the vehicle entered the 605 freeway, the driver pulled off to the side, exited the vehicle and ran away on foot. Officers discovered the female passenger was under the influence and unable to care for herself. The 27-year-old was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. Assisting officers conducted an area check for the driver but were unable to locate him; however, his identity is known. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

Plastic Gun Mistaken for Real Gun

At about 9:30 p.m. on July 7, an officer was dispatched to the area of Tenth Avenue and Camino Real Avenue regarding a report of a man with a gun. Officers discovered a male juvenile riding a bicycle with a rifle case slung around his shoulder, and detained him at gun point. An investigation revealed the suspect was in possession of a plastic air soft handgun that had the appearance of a hunting rifle. The juvenile was counseled and released in the field.
