Police Department: Gardener Robbed at Knifepoint

In other crime news, a resident surprised a would-be burglar.

For the period of July 29-Aug. 4, the responded to 949 calls for service, 121 of which required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Traffic Collision

Around 4:12 p.m. on July 29, an officer responded to a two-party traffic collision at the intersection of Longden and El Monte avenues. The officer determined Party One caused the collision by failing to yield to Party Two. No injuries were reported. 

Teen Allegedly Steals Socks From Macy's

At approximately 5:07 p.m. on July 29, an officer was dispatched to at the regarding a theft report. A 17-year-old boy allegedly concealed a pair of socks inside his backpack and exited the store without paying. Officers arrested him and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Transient Allegedly Violates Parole

Just before 7 a.m. on July 30, officers responded to the 000 block of Alta Street regarding a report of a transient sleeping in the rear of an apartment complex. The 22-year-old was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance and a records checked revealed he was on active parole. Officers arrested him and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. He was also placed on a parole hold.

Drunks in Public

At about 7:30 p.m. on July 30, officers were dispatched to at 601 North Second Avenue regarding a report of people drinking alcohol and soliciting park goers for money. Officers arrested one 45-year-old man who was reportedly so drunk he could not care for himself and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. A records check revealed he had four previous arrests for public intoxication, all of which occurred over the last nine months.

Resident Interrupts Burglary in Progress

Shortly after 9:50 a.m. on July 31, an officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Monte Vista Road regarding an attempted residential burglary report. The resident reportedly heard unusual footsteps and encountered an unknown man in the hallway. The victim raised a lamp and yelled, and the suspect ran out the front door in an unknown direction. The suspect is described as a clean-shaven black man, approximately 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, with short hair. He wore a white t-shirt, white gloves, and black pants or shorts. The responding officer discovered the suspect entered the home through an unlocked bathroom window.

Bicyclist Struck by Car in Crosswalk

At about 11:36 a.m. on July 31, officers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian traffic collision at Highland Oaks Drive and Sycamore Avenue. The officer determined Party One did not see Party Two riding a bicycle in the crosswalk. The motorist struck the bicyclist, who suffered a minor knee injury. The officer determined Party Two was in violation of illegal bicycle operation at a traffic signal.

Brush Fire Leads Police to Man With Arrest Warrant

Just before 4 p.m. on Aug. 1, officers were dispatched to the at 620 East Live Oak Avenue regarding a . The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Meanwhile, officers conducted a traffic stop on two men in a grey Nissan Maxima who appeared to be fleeing the area. Police determined the men did not cause the fire. However, one of the men had a switchblade, and the other had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Police arrested The 30- and 31-year-old men and transported them to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Gardener Robbed

Shortly after 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 1, officers responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a robbery report. The victim, a gardener,  said two men stole gardening equipment from his truck while a third held him at knifepoint. The incident reportedly happened on the lawn of a client's home in the 500 block of West Camino Real Avenue. The suspects fled the location eastbound in a black Ford pick-up truck and can be identified if seen again.

Officer Nabs Man With Billy Club

At approximately 9:11 a.m. on Aug. 2, an officer patrolling the area of Foothill Boulevard and Highland Oaks Drive located a vehicle with a warrant attached to the license plate. The officer discovered the driver did not have a license but did reportedly have a billy club. The officer arrested the 45-year-old man and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

DUI

Around 11:56 p.m. on Aug. 2, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on eastbound Live Oak Avenue at Sixth Avenue. An investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was in possession of cocaine. The officer arrested the 33-year-old driver and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Suspected Shoplifter

At about 12:12 p.m. on Aug. 3, an officer was dispatched to the Santa Anita Mall regarding a theft report. A woman allegedly exited a store without paying for the merchandise she had concealed in her purse. The 19-year-old was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Man Reportedly in Possession of Meth Pipe

At approximately 3:57 p.m. on Aug. 3, an officer made contact with a man in the 100 block of East Foothill Boulevard. The man reportedly showed the methamphetamine pipe he had inside his pocket to police. The officer arrested the 27-year-old man and transported him to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Man Arrested on Suspicion of Driving While High

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a silver Honda Accord in the area of Myrtle Avenue, south of Longden Avenue, for having no front license plate. The officer reportedly noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A vehicle search allegedly revealed the driver, who already had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, was transporting marijuana. His passenger also had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The 24-year-old driver and 20-year-old passenger were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail.

Woman Allegedly Shoplifts Perfume

At about 5:03 p.m. on Aug. 4, an officer was dispatched to at the Santa Anita Mall regarding a woman detained for theft. The suspect allegedly concealed fragrances inside her purse and exited the store without paying. Police determined she also had possession of three counterfeit out-of-state driver licenses and two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Officers arrested the 31-year-old woman and transported her to the Arcadia City Jail.
