Slippery Theft Suspect Slips Out of Handcuffs, Eludes Authorities

The man eluded Santa Anita Mall security Friday afternoon.

arrested a theft suspect who reportedly slipped off his handcuffs to flee security.

Police arrested 18-year-old El Monte resident Ulises Flores on suspicion of petty theft and battery. He was ultimately issued a citation and released.

Loss prevention officers arrested Flores shortly after he left sometime before 3 p.m. However, Flores managed to slip out of his handcuffs; he allegedly committed battery against a security officers, Arcadia police officials said.

Flores ran from the mall and into a residential area. A police helicopter helped pinpoint Flores' whereabouts. The helicopter's pilot reportedly observed Flores jumping over several walls residential walls in an attempt evade capture, according to scanner reports.

Arcadia officers ultimately caught up with Flores near Old Ranch Road and Hugo Reed Drive and arrested him, police said.
