Strip Mall Stabbing Death Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

Juan Lorenzo will have a pretrial hearing next month.

The suspect in the fatal strip mall stabbing of a Pomona teen pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Juan Lorenzo, 31, is charged with one count of murder in the death of 18-year-old Anthony Berry. He is also charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon; that charge involves another victim.

Lorenzo is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing at the Los Angeles County Superior Courthouse in Pasadena on Feb. 9.

He is being held in lieu of $1.3 million bail.

Investigators say an altercation between Lorenzo, Berry, and two other men led to the Dec. 20 stabbing behind the at 1300 South Golden West Avenue. Berry later died of his wounds at Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Police arrested Lorenzo at the scene.

Police say they located the knife used in the stabbing at therestaurant at 1236 South Golden West Ave, where Lorenzo worked.
