Earlier that day, the Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire at a park in the 500 block of Fairview Avenue. Engine 106 arrived on scene and reported a 10 foot by 20-foot section of brush on fire.

Suppression personnel extinguished the flames (which broke out at 4:51 p.m.) within minutes of arrival. That prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent apartment complex.

The fire appears to have started in the park's barbeque area; burning embers left unattended sparked the flames, fire officials said.

Damage is estimated at $500.
