Structure Fire Near Middle School

Damage is estimated to be more than $300,000.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6:25 p.m., the responded to a structure fire in the 1300 block of South First Avenue. Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, RA 105 responded to the scene, accompanied by Engine 102 from the Monrovia Fire Department. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a vacant, single-story family dwelling completely engulfed by fire.

Firefighters determined the structure was dangerously unstable. Taking a defensive stance, firefighters extinguished the fire from the outside. 

The fire was contained to the structure of origin with no damage to surrounding properties. The property, which had been previously vacated and was in escrow at the time of the fire, is directly north of the gymnasium.  Property loss is estimated to be in excess of $300,000.

The cause of the fire in undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.
