UPDATE: Chantry Flats Reopened After Hours-Long Police Standoff

Police have Patrick Anthony Gonzalez in custody.

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m. Chantry Flats has reopened, and police have taken a man accused of attempted murder into custody.

Patrick Anthony Gonzalez allegedly tried to kill himself and a female companion by driving off a cliff along Chantry Flats Road on Saturday night.

When the attempt failed, Gonzalez reportedly ran away and broke into a home at the Santa Anita Dam. The residents escaped unscathed, and warned officers about a loaded firearm in the home.

A standoff ensued when Gonzalez allegedly failed to comply with officers' orders to exit the home.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department SWAT team entered the home before noon Sunday and took Gonzalez into custody. Police took Gonzalez to the hospital with unspecified injuries but his female companion was uninjured.

Original: A suspect in a crime that occurred in Arcadia late Saturday night has barricaded himself in a property in the Chantry Flats area of the Angeles National Forest.

Arcadia police Lt. Mike Castro said Chantry Flats will remain closed to hikers Sunday until Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies remove the suspect from the property.
