Three People Extracted From Overturned Car at Arcadia Intersection

The injured people were transported to the hospital after firefighters extricated them from the vehicle, a fire official said.

Three people were injured Thursday in a vehicle collision and had to be extracted from the wreckage after a car overturned, a fire official said.

A car flipped near the intersection of First Avenue and Huntington Drive, Arcadia Fire Department spokeswoman Beth Stogner said. Firefighters received the call at 11:41 a.m.

The collision occurred when a SUV traveling southbound on First Avenue struck a car backing out from a driveway and flipped over, Stogner said.

Two adults were transported to a local hospital and a minor was taken to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

Units from the Arcadia and Monrovia fire departments responded to the scene, Stogner said.

People remember when you are backing up your car you don't have the right of way. You have to check for other vehicles before proceeding. Read your DMV book geesh

Ugh. I was having lunch at Bean Sprouts on the north side of Huntington when we heard this crash. Looked out and saw the underside of an SUV(?) smoldering something fierce. By the time my 911 call went through, EMTs had already been notified and a minute or two later were on scene. Liz, my guess is that the driver backing out knew the law, but was being careless. There's a LOT of that going around these parts.

You are absolutely right, my husband was driving the SUV that rolled. The other car just backed right out into the street in front of him. People need to be more careful when backing their car up, what if a young child had been behind them?

Oh my, Anonymous, I sure hope he's ok. All my best to you all.

I certainly hope everyone has recovered. Cars can be replaced, human life can not. People look behind and both sides before you back up, you do not have the right of way.

I hope everyone is okay too! Anonymous, it sounds like a kid was involved. What if the person backing out did look and use every precaution they could and yet the person driving down the street was speeding? Who is at fault then? Just throwing it out there because I live near by and there is a lot of cars going way above the speed limit. Lizkolberg, it sounds like an awful lot of people need to read their DMV hand book.

Mike, if in doubt wait it out. People also like to back out of parking spaces without looking and if they did look they are daring you to hit them because they are not going to wait.
