Traffic Stop Leads to $80,000 Ecstasy Bust

Arcadia Police arrest 18-year-old Rosemead man after finding 8,000 pills in the suspect's car.

The arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday who was allegedly in possession of around 8,000 ecstasy pills valued at approximately $80,000.

Police pulled over the suspect, Johnny V. Pham of Rosemead, after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign on Golden West Avenue near Huntington Drive at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement released by Sgt. Tom Le Veque of the APD.

Police said that during the traffic stop, an officer spotted what looked to be a large Ziplock bag full of pills lying on the floorboard of the suspect’s car. When police conducted a search of Pham’s vehicle, they say they found an additional seven bags of pills in the trunk. In total, police say they seized eight bags containing 1,000 pills per bag.

According to authorities, Pham and a juvenile San Gabriel resident who was a passenger in the car were booked at the Arcadia City Jail on suspicion of felony possession for sales and transportation of controlled substances. Pham has since been released after posting his $100,000 bond. The juvenile was released to his parents.
