Update: Body Discovered in Submerged Car

The car tumbled 400 feet down an embankment into the San Gabriel River, authorities said.

Update: California Highway Patrol officials have confirmed that a body was discovered inside a car found partially submerged in the San Gabriel Reservoir this morning.

The vehicle was discovered at 7:20 a.m. Authorities claimed then that no casualties were associated with the vehicle and left the scene at around 9:30 a.m. The vehicle was pulled from the water, but officials from Jan's Towing called authorities after 1 p.m. alerting them that they discovered a body inside the car.

According to earlier reports, Lt. Andy Berg of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's  San Dimas station said the vehicle had been in the reservoir "for quite awhile."

Firefighters were sent about 7:20 a.m. to the location where the vehicle apparently had tumbled about 400 feet down an embankment from state Route 39 at mile marker 24, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Sheriff's Lt. Andy Berg of the San Dimas Station said the car had been there "for quite awhile'' and had been known to law enforcement.

However, it became visible this morning, apparently after the waters receded, which generated the call to authorities, Berg said. No casualties were associated with the car, and there was no search ordered, Berg said.
