Closure for Gold Line Bridge Graffiti Cleanup is Tonight

The damage may require a second closure to clean up.

The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority will shut down parts of the 210 Freeway on Monday to remove extensive graffiti from the $18.6 million Gold Line Bridge.

The closure will take place between midnight and 5 a.m. and affect two lanes of the eastbound 210 Freeway between Baldwin and Santa Anita avenues.

Last week, taggers targeted the bridge's southernmost abutment and part of the basket structure atop it, along with the wall leading from the bridge.

Metro spokesperson Lisa Levy Buch told Patch on Monday the agency is working on a plan to deter would-be vandals. The plan will likely include surveillance cameras.

The cleanup is estimated to cost around $20,000, Buch said, adding that a special coating on the Gold Line Bridge will make the graffiti easier to remove.

If the graffiti cannot be cleaned up during tonight's closure, Metro will obtain approval for a second closure to finish the job, Buch said.
