CPUC to Hold Public Hearing on Edison Windstorm Outage Response

Members of the public can weigh in about Southern California Edison's response during the recent windstorm-related power outages at a public hearing Jan. 26. Edison customer service representatives will also be present.

The California Public Utilities Commission is encouraging the public to attend and contribute at a public participation hearing focused on Southern California Edison’s response to power outages from the , the CPUC announced in a statement Thursday.

The hearing will take place Jan. 26 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Temple City High School (Performance Hall, 9501 Lemon Avenue, Temple City).

Widespread outages occurred in Arcadia, where more than 35,000 SCE customers were without power, prompting officials to cancel classes two days days in a row after the storm. The storm also severely damaged trees in the Arboretum, which remained .

The CPUC has ordered SCE customer service representatives be present at the hearing to help customers with questions and claims related to alleged outage-related damage.

The CPUC also announced Dec. 7 that it is investigating the cause and duration of the outages, as well as SCE’s role in preventing and responding to the outages. The CPUC said they expect to issue a preliminary report later this month.

While a quorum of Commissioners and/or their staff may attend the Public Participation Hearing, no official action will be taken.
