Donnelly Defends Gun Rights After Colorado Shooting

Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-Twin Peaks), a staunch opponent of gun control, said on his Facebook page Saturday that "there is almost nothing that we can do about deranged killers like this guy in Colorado" and insists that there is no need for stronger gun laws.

Donnelly, who represents Arcadia in the state Assembly, lashed out Saturday in response to a call from Mexican President Felipe Calderon asking the U.S. to review its gun laws after a man with an assault rifle and other weapons killed 12 people and wounded dozens of others in a crowded theater showing "The Dark Knight Rises" in a Colorado suburb on Friday.

Nothing ceases to amaze me. This is outrageous that the failed nation of Mexico would dare lecture the United States—where gun ownership by citizens is illegal, but gun violence is at epidemic proportions with the Drug Cartels slaugthering 60K people in the past 4 years. For the number of guns in this country, we are a remarkably peaceful people. Unless you are on scene, and armed, there is al...most nothing that we can do about deranged killers like this guy in Colorado; there is no need to further restrict gun rights because it will have no effect other than to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens from exercising their right to defend themselves, and Gov't has already done enough damage!
