Officials to Reenact Fatal Crosswalk Accident

City officials plan to recreate the accident that killed an Arcadia High School student last year.

Investigators will simulate the fatal crash that killed student Alice Zhang, 16, more than a year ago.

According to the Pasadena Star-News, traffic and engineering experts will join the city's legal defense team Sunday as they examine the crosswalk on the 600 block of Duarte Road that Bowen Du plowed through, killing Zhang and seriously injuring her friend, Priyanka Patel, 17.

A press release from the stated that the 600 block of West Duarte Road between Baldwin and Lovell avenues will be blocked off from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The investigation will provide information for the planned litigation, as well as insight into the safety of the crosswalk, Arcadia Deputy City Clerk/Records Manager Lisa Mussenden told the Star-News.

The City and Du, 20, face a $5 million lawsuit . Patel is for her injuries.

A judge for misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in December. Police reports state the "excessive dirt" on the windshield of Du's Lexus, combined with glare from the setting sun, caused the accident.

However, the safety of the was called into question almost immediately following the April 2011 accident. A group of Zhang's supporters started the to lobby the City Council to install traffic lights and other safety measures around the crosswalk.
