(Poll) Arcadia Will Share Chinese Ballot Error Cost

The city and the election consultant who prepared the ballot will pay $5,408 each.

Arcadia will split the cost of a on the city's mail-in ballot with the elections consultant who prepared the ballot.

Mandarin speakers were instructed to choose up to three candidates for just two open City Council seats. About 100 ballots that had more than two candidates checked were automatically voided, city officials have said.

City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto told the Pasadena Star-News the city and elections consultant Martin & Chapman have each agreed to pay $5,408 to cover the cost of sending out correction notices to the city's approximately 29,000 voters.

To prevent future errors, the city will now make sure each foreign-language ballot is reviewed by someone who speaks that language, and will even hire translators for a "nominal" fee if necessary, Lazzaretto told the newspaper.
