Senator Huff Sending Mobile Office to Arcadia

Arcadians will have chance to meet Huff's staff and have voices heard at Thursday event at Westfield Santa Anita Mall.

State Senator Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) will send staff members to Arcadia Thursday for a "mobile office event" at

Bill Bird, Senator Huff’s Communications Director, told Patch that the Thursday event, which runs from 10-11 a.m.,  is meant to educate and inform constituents about the legislative process and about some of the bills that Huff has in the works. Huff represents the 29th Senate District which includes Arcadia.

“Mobile District Office events like this offer constituents the chance to meet with members of my staff on a one-on-one basis," Senator Huff said in a released statement. "Residents are free to stop by and discuss recent developments with the state budget process, report problems with state agencies, suggest ideas for new legislation or comment on existing legislation.”

The event comes at a time when to put pressure on Sacramento lawmakers to vote yes on placing Governor Jerry Brown’s five-year tax extensions proposal on the June ballot.

Brown himself released a YouTube video Sunday to “check in” and ask Californians their opinions on his tax measure.

AUSD faces a $349 per student reduction, roughly $3.1 million overall, in funding unless the public passes the extensions Brown has proposed. If Brown's extensions pass, AUSD would face a $19 reduction per student. If they fail, AUSD will be cut at least an additional $3 million dollars, the equivalent of 44 teachers, according to AUSD Superintendent Joel Shawn.

Huff and his fellow Republicans in Sacramento oppose Brown’s tax extensions and it is appearing less and less likely that the extensions will make it to ballot.
